Fancy a last minute bargain break?
Holidaymakers’ five favourite hacks to get a cheap deal have been revealed at last in a new survey.
Over nine in ten holidaymakers (95%) take steps to save money, according to a new survey by Multitrip.com, a travel insurance provider.
That's hardly surprising. But what are the top hacks do they do to save dosh that we can use too?
Multitrip revealed their top five money saving holiday hacks.
Although not all of these will be to everyone’s taste - such as flying out at ungodly hours – they will help cut your holiday bills.:
TIP #1. Travel midweek (45%)
It might seem weird and you lose out on adding weekends to either end of your holiday, but travelling off-peak is always a winner for saving money.
TIP #2 Have the nerve to cancel if you see a better deal
Use free cancellation for hotels if a better deal pops up prior to your travel date. Just over a third of holidaymakers use this trick (34%).
TIP #3. Go self-catering (34%)
This saves a bundle as you not only get a cheaper holiday but can prepare all meals with supermarket bought food instead of eating out in restaurants all the time.
TIP #4. Fly at anti-social times (33%)
I know it's a pain but if you're organised and go to bed early on the night of travel you won't feel too bad on the first day of the holiday. You can always catch up on sleep with a nap on the plane and when you get there.
TIP #5. Wait for flight sales (33%)
Travel agents are always trying to push us to book early, but it can pay to wait for the sales and not to grab the first holiday that comes along.
Other popular hacks include booking last-minute (26%) and (my favourite) making lunch from the breakfast buffet to save on eating out (22%).
All-you-can-eat breakfast buffets are so tempting we tend to go overboard and don’t need much for lunch anyway.
Almost a fifth (18%), meanwhile, have confessed to hiding or wearing clothes to save money on flight baggage.
